BEAUTY: My Skincare Routine
A lot of people has been asking what I do to keep my skin nice, so for my first beauty blog post, I decided to do it on my skincare routine.
First off, I need to say alhamdullilah as I have good genes when it comes to good skin as my parents, as well as grandparents have nice skin. So in my opinion, my genes play a part for my skin.
In saying that, when I was down at Otago and went back to Malaysia last year, my skin was not in its greatest condition- it was super oily or super dry at times, I had massive pimples and whiteheads all over my forehead (simply because I got the genetics thing to my head and didn’t take care of my skin at all). I realised that my genetics and skincare routine had to be in a tandem so that I can have the nice skin that I wanted.
After coming back from Malaysia, I knew that my life wasn’t together because you could just tell by the state of my face. It was just really bad so I had to do something as it made me realise that I didn’t take care of myself.
This would be the most crucial thing that I would want to advise to anyone. Take care of yourself. Not just physically by grooming yourself but with your health and well-being too.
Nonetheless, this is my skincare routine...
My Steps on Achieving Nice Skin:
Out of all the micellar water I have tried, Sukin is by far my favourite. I just love the smell and how it makes my skin feel really refreshed and cleansed afterwards.
-Using a cotton pad, drench it with micellar water and use it to wipe all over the face and neck to get rid of makeup. I like to do this twice before I wash my face.
2. a) FORMULA 10.0.6 Best Face Forward:
I really like using the products from Formula 10.0.6 as they really do work in my opinion. This cleanser is great for keeping my skin feeling clean and looking clear. I love the smell of the passionfruit and green tea also.
-Wash your hands. Wet your face with warm water and use a pea size amount. Massage for about 20-30 seconds and rinse off with warm water and then cold water. Use a new facial towel or even facial tissues to dry your face.
2. b) Wild Ferns Manuka Honey Facial Scrub:
This really does make my skin silky smooth and glowing.
-Use only 1-3 a week. I only use it once a week on a Monday morning instead of cleansing my face. Be extra gentle and massage in circular motions.
3. Rose Water:
Who doesn’t like the smell of roses? Rose water is great because it has astringent properties, naturally tones and soothes the skin.
-Pour some rose water onto a cotton pad. Pat on the face and neck and let it dry before putting on moisturiser/cream or a serum/oil.
4. a) NATIO Ageless Daily Moisturiser:
I needed a moisturiser with SPF to protect my skin and I’m so glad that I had found this. It’s light-weight, non-greasy, not sticky and smells amazing. It also has extra ingredients to help achieve nice skin.
-Apply after you have cleansed and tone your face and before going out or putting on makeup. Makeup or no makeup, it is so important to protect your skin so this is what I normally just use for the day on my face.
4. b) Essano Rosehip Oil:
My holy grail for glowing skin. When you use it at night and wake up in the morning, your face literally glows.
-I use one to two drops at night, all over my face. I also use it when my face feels really dry, especially during winter.
5. Tea Tree Oil:
My holy grail for pimples. This dries out acne and helps it shrink or even disappear.
-I use it as a spot treatment. With clean hands, dab tea tree oil on the troubled area ASAP, especially when you feel a pimple coming and again overnight.
6. Manuka Honey:
Great to moisturise the skin and for pimples (it is antibacterial).
-Use it as a spot treatment on top of the tea tree oil or use it as a facial mask. Either way it works wonders. I would use this as a mask ideally once or twice a week or whenever I feel like treating myself (for 15 minutes). Add in lemon juice for something extra to help with scarring and to brighten the skin. Any type of honey will do to be honest.
TIPS:
• PERSISTENCE IS KEY. To achieve nice skin you need to always take care of it.
• DRINK A LOT OF WATER. Water is good for you and for your skin to keep you healthy and glowing. It gets rid of the toxins and hydrates your skin. Having dry, flaky skin also gives you less resilience and is more prone to wrinkling.
• USE WARM WATER TO OPEN UP THE PORES AND COLD WATER TO CLOSE THEM. Before using your cleanser/scrub use warm water to we the face and then cold water to wash the product off.
• MASSAGE YOUR FACE LIGHTLY. Especially when using a scrub because the skin on your face is very delicate.
• ONLY TOUCH YOUR FACE WHEN YOU NEED TO. And try to make sure that your hands are clean if you do.
• READ REVIEWS. Always read the reviews of a product first to see if it really does work and if it is worth the buy. Before I bought any of the products that I have mentioned I have done my research and I can definitely say that I am glad that I purchased them. (I bought them at pharmacies as well as the supermarket).
• TRY NOT TO SLEEP WITH MAKEUP ON. It could lead to breakouts and dry skin.
• ALWAYS CLEAN YOUR FACE AFTER A WORKOUT. Bacteria builds up and your pores are open when sweating (risk to acne). Micellar water or facial wipes are handy for this.
• DO NOT TOUCH IT. You will only make it angry. (The pimple I mean).
