Happy Hijab Day 💕

When @aidaazlin_ asked me for my opinion to help someone who is thinking about taking their hijab off it reminded me of my own hijrah. Wearing the hijab is not always easy but it’s about being intentional on why you are wearing it. Personally, on the days that are hard, I keep reminding myself to wear the hijab because for the love of God and the fear of being distant to Him. Having been brought up in a Western society it was actually easier for me to wear it because you have to be sincere since you will be seen as a minority. However, I’ve never let labels or stereotypes affect me because I always knew that it’s not who I am. Therefore, to me, wearing the hijab has never been a disadvantage and I’ve never let it stop me from taking up opportunities or made it a reason as to why I didn’t achieve or receive something. Because you can still achieve amazing things with and without the hijab on. Ironically, now living in a Muslim dominated country, you are reminded less on why you are wearing it as it is the norm and everyone else is doing it. When things become normal, we don’t question why, we just do; we follow the status quo and we lose our sense of identity. That is why intentional living is super important. If we don’t live intentionally we don’t live in our purpose or our values. But when we do live intentionally, we lead meaningful lives in which we try to become the greatest versions of ourselves. To me the hijab is a means to remind me of being intentional and what it means to be a Muslim. The hijab is not just a mere piece of fabric to hide one’s physical beauty but to honour the beauty of one’s character through their intentions.
